Manhattan Theatre Club will present the world premiere of Bess Wohl’s Continuity in 2019. The Great Comet Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin will direct the production, which is set to begin performances May 7 at New York City Center’s The Studio at Stage II prior to a May 21 official opening.

Originally commissioned as part of MTC’s Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Initiative, the play follows a beleaguered film crew as they race against the clock before they lose light. Six different takes of their climate change-themed thriller’s climactic scene unfold onstage.

Cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds) presented a staged reading of the play at the Goodman Theatre last year as part of the Chicago company’s New Stages series.

MTC has also announced 21 recent recipients of the MTC/Sloan Initiative grants, which helped Continuity get on its feet. The newly commissioned writers are Jaclyn Backhaus (Men on Boats), Clare Barron (Dance Nation), Nina Braddock (Wishbone), Sarah Burgess (Dry Powder), Christopher Chen (Caught), E V Crowe (Hero), Jessica Dickey (Row After Row), Stella Feehily (O Go My Man), Dipika Guha (Yoga Play), Alan Harris (How My Light Is Spent), Jiréh Breon Holder (Too Heavy for Your Pocket), Philip Howze (Frontières Sans Frontières), Ethan Lipton (The Outer Space), Martyna Majok (Cost of Living), Caroline V. McGraw (Ultimate Beauty Bible), Jiehae Park (peerless), Max Posner (The Treasurer), Jen Silverman (Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties), Al Smith (Harrogate), Celine Song (Endlings), and Andrew Thompson (In Event of Moone Disaster).
