Performances begin September 19 for Scott Carter’s The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord, the first production of Primary Stages’ 2017–2018 Off-Broadway season. The new play from Carter, executive producer of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, sees the three historical figures debating literature, religion, and everything in between.

Kimberly Senior directs a run set to officially open October 1 and play through October 22 at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

The cast is made up of Duane Boutté (Parade, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin) as Charles Dickens, Michael Laurence (Appropriate, Talk Radio) as Thomas Jefferson, and Thom Sesma (Pacific Overtures, Man of La Mancha) as Leo Tolstoy.

The production features set design by Wilson Chin (Cost of Living); costume design by David Hyman (D Deb Debbie Deborah); lighting design by Jen Schriever (Eclipsed); sound design by Lindsay Jones (Bronx Bombers); projection design by Caite Hevner (In Transit); casting by Stephanie Klapper Casting.
