Regional News Portland Center Stage and Victory Gardens Announce Seasons The lineups include regional productions of Fun Home, Fade, And So We Walked, and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.

Portland Center Stage and Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater are the latest regional theatres to announce their 2017–18 seasons. Both venues are set to kick off their seasons in the fall with productions of Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron’s musical Fun Home.

Gary Griffin will helm the Tony-winning musical in Chicago, with performances slated for September 19–November 12. Fun Home will be followed by Tanya Saracho’s play about the TV industry, Fade, which recently ran Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre.

The Victory Gardens season will continue in 2018 with a production of Breach: a manifesto on race in america through the eyes of a black girl recovering from self-hate, a coming-of-age story about race, class, and motherhood by Antoinette Nwandu, slated for February 9–March 11, 2018.

Also included in the lineup: Boo Killebrew’s Doing It, about a former inmate named Lettie attempting to re-enter society, directed by artistic director Chay Yew (April 6–May 6, 2018), and Yaël Farber’s Mies Julie, adapted from August Strindberg’s Miss Julie and set in post-apartheid South Africa (May 25–June 23, 2018).

In Oregon, artistic director Chris Coleman is set to direct Portland Center Stage’s production of Fun Home, with performances scheduled for September 16–October 22. The fall lineup also includes Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe’s Every Brilliant Thing (September 23–November 25) and Luis Alfaro’s retelling of Medea, titled Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles (November 4–26).

PCS will celebrate the holiday season with Peter Gwinn and Bobby Mort’s The Second City’s A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens, and An Evening of Holiday Story and Song, featuring Truman Capote’s A Christmas Memory and a concert of holiday songs curated by Merideth Kaye Clark and Brandon Woolley.

The theatre will kick off the new year with Chris Coleman’s sequel, Astoria: Part 2 (January 20–February 18, 2018), followed by Adam Szymkowicz’s Kodachrome (February 3–March 18, 2018) and Andrew Hinderaker’s The Magic Play (March 3–April 1, 2018), about a magician trying to get through a live show just hours after his partner has left him.

In the spring, DeLanna Studi will perform her solo show, And So We Walked, about being a Cherokee woman (March 31–May 13, 2018). The season will wrap up with George Bernard Shaw’s Major Barbara (April 14–May 13, 2018), followed by Lanie Robertson’s Billie Holiday musical, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill (May 26–July 1, 2018).
