Classic Arts News Porgy and Bess to Begin Performances at Seattle Opera on August 11 The Gershwins' famed opera will play the Washington venue through August 25.

The Seattle Opera will kick off its 2018–2019 season with a production of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess at McCaw Hall. The production opens on August 11 and runs through August 25.

Garnett Bruce stages the production, which features costumes from Tony Award-winning designer Paul Tazewell (Hamilton). John DeMain conducts the opera for the fourth time at Seattle Opera.

Alfred Walker and Angel Blue star in the title roles, alternating with Kevin Short and Elizabeth Llewellyn, who is making her company debut.

The opera was most recently revived on Broadway in 2011 and starred Norm Lewis and Audra McDonald in the title roles; McDonald won a Tony Award for her performance.
