James Hindman’s Popcorn Falls, which began previews September 14 prior to an official opening October 8 at the Davenport Theatre, plays its final performance November 25. Upon closing, the new comedy will have offered 28 previews and 56 performances.
Two-time Tony winner Christian Borle, most recently on Broadway in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, made his New York directorial debut with the play, which co-stars Adam Heller (It Shoulda Been You, Elf the Musical) and Tom Souhrada (Desperate Measures, Mary Poppins), who play 20 roles in under 90 minutes.
The play is set in the small American town of Popcorn Falls, whose only claim to fame, their namesake waterfall, has dried up. Now bankrupt, its last chance is a large grant that can only be used if the town produces a play in a week. One big problem: no playhouse. Another problem: no play.
