Pipeline Theatre Company will celebrate its 10th anniversary next spring with the world premiere of Playing Hot, a jazz concert-party-play hybrid by Kevin Armento with direction by Jaki Bradley and music direction by Marcus Miller. Set within a brassy dance hall, the show tracks the birth of jazz in New Orleans through the rise and fall of trumpeter Buddy Bolden.

Billed as "neither biography nor period piece, neither play nor musical, but an explosive and innovative theatrical event in the style of jazz," the show will premiere Off-Broadway in spring 2019.

Dates, casting, and further creative team to be announced.

Playing Hot was commissioned and developed by Pipeline, which will offer a sneak peek of the production at the company's spring gala in June. The show received a special one-night-only production in the summer of 2016 at the Gym at Judson.
