Off-Broadway News Our Lady of 121st Street, Directed by Tony Winner Phylicia Rashad, Opens Off-Broadway Signature Theatre celebrates the official opening of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ 2002 play.

The Signature Theatre revival of Stephen Adly GuirgisOur Lady of 121st Street, directed by Tony winner Phylicia Rashad, officially opens Off-Broadway May 20. The play follows the acclaimed, three-time extended Signature production of Guirgis’ Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train.

In Guirgis’ 2002 play, a group of former students return to their Harlem neighborhood to pay respects to the late Sister Rose. Once there, they discover that her body has been stolen.

The cast is made up of Joey Auzenne (House of Cards), Obie Award winner Quincy Tyler Bernstine (The Amateurs), Erick Betancourt (Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train), Maki Borden (A 24-Decade History of Popular Music), Jimonn Cole (Peter and the Starcatcher), John Doman (The Wire), Dierdre Friel (Search Party), Hill Harper (The Good Doctor), Kevin Isola (Billions), Stephanie Kurtzuba (The Good Wife), Paola Lázaro (To the Bone), and John Procaccino (Incident at Vichy).

Our Lady of 121st Street began performances May 1 in the Irene Diamond Stage and is scheduled to play through June 10.

The production features scenic design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Alexis Forte, lighting design Keith Parham, and sound design by Robert Kaplowitz. Charles M. Turner III is the production stage manager. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting.
