Once On This Island's Alex Newell and A Bronx Tale's Adam Kaplan will take part in a March 9 staged reading of Far From Canterbury, a new work featuring a score and book by Danny K. Bernstein. The musical is a reimagined musical version of The Wife of Bath’s Tale from Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales.
The cast, under the direction of Charlie Johnson, will feature Newell as The Queen, Kaplan as Nicolas, Gabe Gibbs (Book of Mormon) as John, Kennedy Caughell (Beautiful) as Agnes, Joshua Dela Cruz (Aladdin) as Marcus, Kathryn McCreary (The Phantom of the Opera tour) as Dolores, Cathy Ang (KPOP) as Candita, David Park (Red Roses Green Gold) as James, Mary Jo McConnell (Freaky Friday) as John's Mother, and Greg Carter (The Adding Machine) as Agnes' Father.
In the musical, a young knight is arrested for a serious crime. John will be sentenced to death, unless in one year he can answer one simple riddle: “What is it that women desire most?”
The creative and production team also includes music director-arranger Jeff Cox, stage manager Christine Phelan, general manager George Simon, associate producer Brian Murphy, casting consultant Ari Rudess, casting assistant Shawna Brazell, and assistant director Ruby Gibbs.
