Los Angeles News Once On This Island Tony Nominee Michael Arden Will Direct Jefferson Mays in New Adaptation of A Christmas Carol The production is part of the Geffen Playhouse’s 2018-2019 season, which will also feature the work of award-winning directors Jo Bonney and Robert O’Hara.

The Geffen Playhouse has announced several additions to its 2018–2019 season, the first under new Artistic Director Matt Shakman.

Jefferson Mays, who won Tony Awards for A Gentleman’s Guide for Love & Murder and the Pulitzer Prize-winning solo play I Am My Own Wife, has written a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, in which he will also star.

Tony Award nominated Once On This Island director Michael Arden will helm Mays’ “wildly theatrical” treatment for the holiday ghost story that promises fresh perspectives on Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Tiny Tim. A Christmas Carol will run October 30–December 2.

Jo Bonney will direct the world premiere of José Rivera’s The Untranslatable Secrets of Nikki Corona, which will run September 4–October 7. The Geffen has also announced that Robert O'Hara (Barbecue, Bootycandy) will direct Black Super Hero Magic Mama, the world-premiere play by Inda Craig-Galván that runs March 5–April 14, 2019.
