Charles Strouse, composer of Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, Applause and more than a dozen other musicals, will celebrate his 90th birthday June 7, 2018, with a concert of his works at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City.
The theatre district supper club has established itself as a showcase for the Tony Award-winning tunesmith, presenting concert versions of his lesser-known shows, including the one-performance A Broadway Musical earlier this year. The 2018 birthday concert will feature Penny Fuller (who originated the role of Eve Harrington in Applause) and other Broadway stars to be announced.
A Salute to Charles Strouse: A 90th Birthday Celebration is produced and directed by Steven Carl McCasland with musical direction and arrangements by James Horan. McCasland and Horan founded Feinstein’s/54 Below Second Act Series, which has celebrated the scores of Broadway’s most neglected musicals, including Strouse’s Charlie and Algernon, Bring Back Birdie, the forthcoming A Pound In Your Pocket, and others.
