Based on Jennifer Vogel’s 2005 memoir Flim-Flam Man: The True Story of My Father's Counterfeit Life, Flag Day is a portrait of a daughter struggling to overcome the loving yet dark legacy of her con-man father.

Butz, a Tony winner for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Catch Me If You Can, last appeared on Broadway in a Tony-nominated performance as Alfred P. Doolittle in the current revival of My Fair Lady. His additional screen credits include the films Good Posture and Luce, as well as the series Mercy Street and Bloodline.

William Horberg, Jon Kilik, and Fernando Sulichin are producing the project, a co-production with Wonderful Films, Rahway Road, New Element Films, and Clyde Is Hungry Films.
