Encores! News Nikki M. James, Mark Evans, Ann Harada, More Set for I Married an Angel at Encores! The New York City Center production runs March 20–24.

New York City Center continues its 2019 Encores! series with Rodgers and Hart’s I Married an Angel, running March 20–24 as part of the midtown venue’s 75th anniversary season. Among those joining the previously announced Sara Mearns of the New York City Ballet in the title role are Tony winner Nikki M. James, Mark Evans, and Ann Harada.

Evans (The Play That Goes Wrong) will play Count Willy Palaffi, the central banker who is visited by an angel sent from heaven to tame his temper. James (The Book of Mormon) will play Countess Peggy Palaffi, with Harada as the Duchess of Holstein-Kuloff.

The cast will also include Phillip Attmore as Peter Mueller, Max Baker as General Lucash, Hayley Podschun as Anna Murphy, and Tom Robbins as Harry Mischka Szigetti.

Rounding out the ensemble are Rachel Coloff, Barton Cowperthwaite, Jōvan Dansberry, Alexa De Barr,Christine DiGiallonardo, Erica Dorfler, Kellie Drobnick, Julia Estrada, Ta’Nika Gibson, Stephen Hanna, Andrea Jones-Sojola, Naomi Kakuk, Francis Lawrence, Cory Linger, Robin Masella, Gia Mongell, Lindsey O’Neil, Michelle Mercedes Russell, Ryan Steele, Christian Tworzyanski, and Kathy Voytko.

Director and choreographer (and Mearns' fiancé) Joshua Bergasse leads a creative team that includes music director Rob Fisher.

The 1938 musical comedy, which originally featured choreography by George Balanchine (before he went on to lead New York City Ballet at City Center), follows Call Me Madam in Encores!’ current lineup. High Button Shoes will follow in May.
