Justin Walker and Alicia Silverstone in Clueless Paramount HE.

The New Group's 2018–2019 season will include the world premiere of Amy Heckerling's Clueless, The Musical, based on her 1995 film of the same name.

Directed by Kristin Hanggi with choreography by Kelly Devine, performances will begin in November in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 West 42nd Street. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The musical version of the film—which starred Alicia Silverstone—concerns Cher, a girl so optimistic she can’t see that her bungling attempts at playing Cupid disguise her own fashion-plated isolation.

Three other world premieres will also be part of the upcoming season, which launches in September with Sharr White’s The True, directed by Artistic Director Scott Elliott. Leading the cast will be Edie Falco, Michael McKean, and Peter Scolari.

Falco is cast as Dorothea "Polly” Noonan, a blunt, profane, decades-long defender of Albany’s Democratic Party machine. When it comes to Polly, politics is only personal, especially now that her hero, “mayor for life” Erastus Corning II (McKean), is battling for party control while at the same time fighting the fiercest primary challenge of his life.

In February 2019, the New Group will present Jeremy O. Harris’ “Daddy,” a co-production with Vineyard Theatre. Directed by Danya Taymor, the cast will include Tony winner Alan Cumming. The drama, set in the Los Angeles Hills, focuses on Franklin, a young black artist, who finds himself seduced by Andre (Cumming), a wealthy patron. When Franklin's Christian mother decides that her son is in peril, she enters into a deeply moving battle of wills with Andre over Franklin.

The season will conclude in April with Jesse Eisenberg’s Yea, Sister!, directed by Elliott. In Eisenberg's play, Lorraine is trying to save her dying mother, miserable husband, and estranged daughter, while starring as Bloody Mary in the Jewish Community Center production of South Pacific. When her mother’s home aide, Serbian immigrant Ljuba, asks for help finding a husband, Lorraine takes on her most challenging role to date: matchmaker.
