The Tony-nominated Broadway revival of Tony Kushner’s two-part Angels in America will provide $5 tickets to New York City-based LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS service organizations, including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Gay Men’s Health Crisis, SAGE, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, and the LGBTQ Center.

The tickets will be subsidized by the newly established “Angels Fund,” supported by the Howard Gilman Foundation and SHS Foundation.

The Marianne Elliott-helmed revival, running on extension through July 15 at the Neil Simon Theatre, earned 11 Tony Award nominations earlier this month—the most a production of a play has received in Broadway history.

“We wanted to make sure that individuals who are most directly connected to the content of the show, but who couldn’t afford full-priced tickets, had the opportunity to see it at an affordable price,” producer Tim Levy said in a statement. “We wanted to be able to share ‘The Great Work’ with those in the community who are actually doing The Great Work.” Levy, Director of the National Theatre (where the production premiered), produces the New York engagement alongside Jujamcyn President Jordan Roth.

“This season’s revival of Angels in America is much more than revisiting Tony Kushner’s brilliant plays with a spectacular cast,” added BC/EFA Executive Director Tom Viola. “It is a deep dive into how we find the courage, outrage and love to survive, even thrive in the midst of any calamity. Angels in America is a searing reflection of how we dare to love each other, as our best, worst, and most exhilarating selves. I thank the producers for sharing that mirror with Broadway Cares, our staff, and volunteers. We are blessed and ripped open by the experience.”

The production stars Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter, Nathan Lane as Roy Cohn, Denise Gough as Harper Pitt, and Susan Brown as Hannah Pitt, among other roles (each earning Tony Award nominations for their performances), as well as James McArdle as Louis Ironson, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Belize, Lee Pace as Joseph Pitt, and Amanda Lawrence as the Angel. Malone, who currently serves as the alternate Angel, will assume the role full-time beginning May 23.

The Angels Fund receives additional support from Debby Landesman, Barbara Whitman/Purple Plume Foundation, Daryl and Steven Roth, and Elizabeth Armstrong.
