Video Network’s Tatiana Maslany Describes Her Backstage Shenanigan That Led to an Onstage Mishap The Broadway star had to quickly change her blocking in the drama starring Bryan Cranston.

On February 18, Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany joined Seth Meyers on Late Night With Seth Meyers to talk about her current run in Broadway’s Network, the new play adapted from Paddy Chayefsky’s Oscar-winning film.

In her Broadway debut, Maslany plays Diana Christensen (the role originated by Faye Dunaway in the movie) alongside Bryan Cranston’s Howard Beale and Tony Goldwyn’s Max Schumacher i. While the run has been a sold-out hit, there was one night when not everything went according to plan.

“I was goofing off backstage one day and squatted as a joke and ripped my pants open completely, all the way up the front, and then had to go on and be a cool business exec,” she said.

“I had a newspaper. I just held it on my butt and then backed up offstage like a cartoon. I changed a bunch of blocking, a news desk almost mowed me down,” she said with a laugh. “I think I pulled it off.”

The actor recently made her New York stage debut in Off-Broadway’s Mary Page Marlowe at Second Stage; she won an Emmy in 2016 for her work on television’s Orphan Black. She has received two additional Emmy nominations for the role, as well as a Golden Globe nomination. But Maslany got her start young, playing an orphan in a children’s production of Oliver!, actually opposite Drama Desk nominee Paul Alexander Nolan. Network continues its limited engagement run at the Belasco Theatre.
