Following the departure of longtime principal dancer Veronika Part, American Ballet Theatre has announced the promotion of three of its dancers to principal status beginning September 1: Sarah Lane, Christine Shevchenko, and Devon Teuscher. Corps member Calvin Royal III has also been promoted to soloist.

Lane joined the Company in 2003 as an apprentice, became a member of the corps in 2004, and a soloist in 2007. Lane was also the dancing double for Natalie Portman in the dance blockbuster Black Swan, for which Portman won an Oscar.

Shevchenko joined the Studio Company in 2006, earning her apprenticeship in 2007, joined the corps in 2008, and became a soloist in 2014, as did Teuscher. Royal III began as an apprentice in 2010 and joined the corps in 2011.

The Russian-born ballerina Part joined the Company as a soloist in 2002 and was promoted to principal dancer in 2009, when she played such roles as Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, Queen of the Driads in Don Quixote, and dozens more.
