Regional News Melissa Leo Joins André Holland in Williamstown Reading of Safe Space The Oscar winner will play a university president in the new drama by Alan Fox.

Academy Award-winning actor Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River) is set to join Moonlight and Jitney star André Holland in a Williamstown Theatre Festival reading of Safe Space, a new drama by Alan Fox. The play will be performed as part of the festival’s pre-season lineup on June 8 at 7 PM at The Clark Art Institute.

In Safe Space, Leo will play a the president of a university. When professor Marcus Wood (Holland) faces accusations from a student, the head of the school intervenes, prompting campus-wide protests. The two must learn to navigate identity politics, ethics, and core beliefs.

As previously announced, the Williamstown Theatre Festival season will begin June 27 on the Main Stage with Jen Silverman's new play, The Roommate, directed by Mike Donahue and featuring Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner S. Epatha Merkerson and Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Jane Kaczmarek.

This will be followed by Sarah Ruhl’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist comedy, The Clean House (July 19–29), starring Tony nominee Jessica Hecht and directed by Rebecca Taichmanm, as well as the new musical A Legendary Romance (August 3–20), with music and lyrics by Geoff Morrow, a book by Timothy Prager, and direction by Lonny Price.
