The chamber opera Crossing plays the Brooklyn Academy of Music October 3–8 as part of the 2017 Next Wave Festival.

Tony winner Diane Paulus directs the New York premiere of the piece, composed, written, and conducted by Matthew Aucoin. The production hails from the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Aucoin's operatic imagining of Walt Whitman's time as a Civil War nurse features baritone Rod Gilfry—reviving his role as the poet from A.R.T.'s acclaimed 2015 run—and the Boston-based orchestra collective A Far Cry.

The production also features choreography by Jill Johnson, set design by Tom Pye, costume design by David Zinn, lighting by Jennifer Tipton, and projection design by Finn Ross.
