Playwright and performer Maddie Corman (Appropriate, Next Fall) will star in a limited Off-Broadway run of her play Accidentally Brave at the DR2 Theatre this spring. Presented by Tony-winning producer Daryl Roth, the world-premiere production is directed by Tony nominee Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages, bare) and will begin performances March 11 ahead of a March 25 opening.

In Accidentally Brave, Corman shares her story of perseverance and hope when the unthinkable tests her marriage, family, and values. Though the specifics are not revealed, the play is described as "courageous, daring, and unflinchingly honest."

“Maddie is a wonderfully thoughtful person, actor and writer,” says producer Roth. “Accidentally Brave is her story, personal yet universal, and goes to the core of what it means to be human in a world with no certainty. I am proud to bring Maddie’s beautiful play to the stage, and trust audiences will respond to it as strongly as I have.”

“I have been so moved by the honesty and bravery of those who have shared their deeply personal stories with the world, and privately with me, over the past year and a half,” says Corman. “Their strength has helped so many people begin to heal and feel less alone. My hope is that sharing my story—in all its messy glory—will open people’s hearts and help shine a light on things we feel must be kept secret.”

The design team for Accidentally Brave includes scenic designer Jo Winiarski (Late Night with Seth Meyers; Love, Loss, and What I Wore), lighting designer Jamie Roderick (Red Roses, Green Gold; Afterglow), sound designer Bart Fasbender (The Other Josh Cohen, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), and projection designer Elaine J. McCarthy (Into the Woods, Spamalot).

Performances of Accidentally Brave are currently scheduled through July 14 at the DR2 Theatre (103 E. 15th St.). For more information, click here.
