The world premiere of Lynn Nottage’s play Mlima’s Tale will play an additional two weeks at Off-Broadway's Public Theater.
The new work tells the story of an elephant trapped inside the clandestine ivory market, following the poached animal's spirit as his tusks travel along the food chain.
Previously scheduled through May 20, performances of Mlima’s Tale will now continue through June 3.
Obie Award winner Jo Bonney directs a cast led by Tony nominee Sahr Ngaujah (Fela!) as Mlima, and an ensemble made up of Ito Aghayere (Junk), Jojo Gonzalez (Small Mouth Sounds), and Kevin Mambo (The Fortress of Solitude).
Mlima’s Tale began performances March 27 ahead of an April 15 opening.
The production features scenic design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by Jennifer Moeller, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Darron L West, music composition and direction by Justin Hicks, and movement direction by Chris Walker.
