Once Upon a Time in the Berkshires, created by Obie Award-winning playwright Lucy Thurber (Bottom of the World, Where We’re Born) premieres at the Williamstown Theatre Festival August 13–16. Performances are free.

Directed by WTF Associate Artistic Director Laura Savia, the production features more than 80 Berkshire area residents who perform alongside professional actors.

Once Upon a Time in the Berkshires is presented as part of Williamstown’s Community Works initiative. Local residents collaborate with professional artists throughout the year to create plays for and about the Berkshires. The season culminates in a world-premiere family-friendly play cast with local residents and professional actors.

According to WTF, “In Once Upon a Time in the Berkshires, three children ask their grandmother to tell a story about a time long ago. She speaks of a world made of water, of star-crossed lovers, and of banshees. With original music and dance, warriors and magical creatures flood the stage as the tale unfolds.”
