The Disney musical Mary Poppins opened November 16, 2006, at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Led by Ashley Brown as Mary Poppins and Gavin Lee, the production was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two.

Mary Poppins, a co-production between Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, is based on P.L. Travers' original stories and the 1964 Disney film. The musical featured choreography and co-direction by Matthew Bourne and included original songs from the film—with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman—as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Julian Fellowes wrote the book.

The classic character returns this year in a new film, directed by Rob Marshall, which arrives in movie theatres December 19. Lin-Manuel Miranda joins Emily Blunt on the big screen in the upcoming movie musical Mary Poppins Returns, in a cast that also includes Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, and original Mary Poppins star Dick Van Dyke.
