International News London Revival of Chicago Will Welcome New Velma Kelly The international hit musical continues at the Phoenix Theatre.

Laura Tyrer, who has been seen in the West End productions of Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, From Here to Eternity, and Cabaret, will join the London cast of Chicago September 24 at the Phoenix Theatre.

Tyrer will step into the role of merry murderer Velma Kelly through October 6, joining Alexandra Burke as Roxie Hart, Duncan James as Billy Flynn, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton, and Paul Rider as Amos Hart.

Tyrer secured the role of Velma via an audition to be shown as part of the new ITV series The Big Audition, which delves into the world of auditioning.

Chicago is currently booking at the Phoenix Theatre through January 5, 2019.


Chicago, which is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Ebb. The 1996 Broadway revival, which continues at the Ambassador Theatre, was choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse, directed by Walter Bobbie, and produced by Barry and Fran Weissler.
