Tony-nominated siblings Liz Callaway and Ann Hampton Callaway often perform together, but May 7 Liz will step in for Ann in a major concert performance at Disney Hall in Los Angeles.

“My sister Ann is sick and under doctor’s orders to be on vocal silence for a few weeks,” Liz told Playbill. ”She was supposed to do a wonderful Sondheim concert at Disney Hall in Los Angeles called Jazz and Sondheim: Side By Side with Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes. In the true spirit of ‘the show must go on‘ I am going to fill in for her!”

That makes for a busy week, since Liz has been preparing for a pre-scheduled concert at Carnegie Hall May 3. She said she will jump into rehearsals for the May 7 concert as soon as she’s done. After the Sunday concert she will catch the red-eye back to New York for yet another concert, a benefit for Off-Broadway’s The Actors Company Theatre, on Monday evening.

In Jazz and Sondheim: Side By Side, Liz will be lead vocalist for new jazz interpretations of songs from Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway musicals, created by pianists/arrangers/spouses Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes. “There’s one song I never dreamed I’d get to do: ‘The Ladies Who Lunch,’ which was in the first show Ann and I ever saw, Company.”

Liz said she and her sister have filled in for one another before, and when her sister performed an earlier version of this concert, “The songs sounded so great, I felt a little jealous.”

Here is the full planned set list:

“Comedy Tonight” from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
“Night Waltz” from A Little Night Music
“Not While I’m Around” from Sweeney Todd
“Uptown, Downtown,” written for Follies
“The Ladies Who Lunch” from Company
“Old Friends” from Merrily We Roll Along
“Another Hundred People” from Company
“Send In The Clowns” from A Little Night Music
“Everybody Says Don’t” from Anyone Can Whistle

“I’ll be doing a lot of work over the next couple of days,” she said. ”I’m very excited.”

Jazz and Sondheim: Side By Side will feature Charlap and Rosnes on piano, Steve Wilson on saxophone and flute, Sean Smith on bass, and Matt Wilson on drums, with Scott Dunn conducting.

The 7:30 PM concert will open with pianist/composer Dave Grusin performing jazz interpretations of songs from Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story.
