Listen above to Grammy-nominated recording artist Lana Del Rey's cover of "You Must Love Me," recorded for Andrew Lloyd Webber's upcoming CD box set Unmasked: The Platinum Collection. The collection is set to be released in two- and four-disc versions March 16.
The song, with music by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, was written for the Madonna-led movie adaptation of Evita, sung by the title character as she grapples with ovarian cancer. The song has subsequently appeared in stage productions of the musical, including a 2006 revival that played both London and Broadway and the current international tour that recreates Hal Prince's original Tony-winning production.
Curated and overseen by Lloyd Webber, Unmasked: The Platinum Collection includes tunes from his earliest work, starting with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, through his most recent: School of Rock. Additional newly-recorded tracks included are Nicole Scherzinger singing "Memory" from Cats and Gregory Porters' "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" from Starlight Express.
The four-disc version of the collection also contains a 40-page book with an introduction from Lloyd Webber and in-depth notes on each track, written by theatre critic and Lloyd Webber biographer Michael Coveney, together with tributes from Barbra Streisand, Glenn Close, and more.
Unmasked is also the title of the composer's memoir, out March 6, as well as the upcoming musical revue celebrating his career. The show will premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse this fall.
