Lincoln Center Theater has welcomed its next class of New Writers in Residence: Jaclyn Backhaus, Michael R. Jackson, Christina Masciotti, Grace McLean, and Korde Arrington Tuttle. The residency provides the use of free office space and other resources to enable creative growth throughout the course of the year.

Backhaus received critical acclaim last year for her Off-Broadway play Men on Boats, which was a New York Times Critics’ Pick. She is the playwright in residence at Clubbed Thumb and has received commissions from such institutions as Playwrights Horizons and Ars Nova.

Jackson is a songwriter and composer, whose musicals include A Strange Loop and Only Children. He is a 2017 Jonathan Larson Grant recipient, a Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award winner, a 2016-2017 Dramatist Guild Fellow, and has been commissioned by University of the Arts and by LCT3.

Masciotti is a 2016 Guggenheim Fellow. Her plays Raw Bacon From Poland, Adult, and Social Security were all New York Times’ Critics Picks. Her plays Adult and Vision Disturbance have been published by Broadway Play Publishing.

McLean, who currently stars as Marya in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway, is an actor, singer, and performer. Her band Grace McLean & Them Apples performed in the Lincoln Center American Songbook series two years in a row (2015–2016), and has toured Pakistan.

Tuttle’s work has been developed at the Ojai Playwrights Conference, the Obie Award-winning The Fire This Time Festival, The 24 Hour Plays, and the Obie Award-winning Harlem 9’s 48 Hours… in Harlem. He is the recipient of the Steinberg Playwriting Fellowship, and was selected as a finalist for both the 2017 Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition and The City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting contest.

The writers join last year’s inaugural class of New Writers in Residence: Ngozi Anyanwu, Jocelyn Bioh, Sarah DeLappe, Olivia Dufault, Phillip Howze, Julia Jarcho, Jason Kim, and Jiehae Park.
