Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will be seen in Disney's upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, is in final negotiations to star in the adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials for BBC One and Bad Wolf TV.

The ever-busy Miranda would play balloonist and adventurer Lee Scoresby in the eight-part series, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Others in talks for the fantasy trilogy, which was commissioned by the BBC in 2015, include The King's Speech Oscar winner and Les Misérables film director Tom Hooper, who would helm the project; and Logan's Dafne Keen, who would play the central character Lyra, a young orphan.

His Dark Materials is comprised of the volumes The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass.
