What happens when Tony winner and iconic “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” interpreter Leslie Uggams visits Tony-nominated opera star and current “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” performer Renée Fleming backstage at Carousel? A duet, of course.

Uggams met up with the cast at the Imperial Theatre, where Fleming takes on the role of Nettie Fowler in the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. The two could not pass up the opportunity to sing a bit of one of the musical’s memorable numbers—with some modified lyrics (in true Uggams fashion). Watch the video below.

Uggams’ performance of “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” on the Capitol lawn has become one of Broadway folklore. In the original video, Uggams starts out strong as she glides through the audience before resorting to some not-quite-English lyrics. Get the story behind the infamous performance here.

Fleming and four of her co-stars are up for Tony Awards, to be presented June 10 at Radio City Music Hall. The production received 11 total nominations including Best Revival of a Musical.
