School of Rock's Leo Ash Evens, who originated the role of Bobby Gerard in the Ensemble Studio Theatre staging of Joe Gilford's Finks, will reprise the part when the drama plays TheatreWorks in Palo Alto, California.
Directed by Giovanna Sardelli, performances are scheduled for June 6–July 1 at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts.
Evens will be joined by Wicked alum Donna Vivino as Natalie Meltzer, Jim Stanek as Mickey Dobbs, George Psarras as Café Society Pianist/Sergeant-at-Arms, Robert Sicular as Representative Francis Walter, Gabriel Marin as Fred Lang, Richard Frederick as Martin Berkeley/Phil Larson/Lee J. Cobb, and Michael Barrett Austin as Victor Lynch/Stanley/Elia Kazan/Budd Schulberg.
Finks, which is based on the true story of actor Jack Gilford (and written by his son), is set during the 1950s Red Scare when the House Un-American Activities Committee attacks “subversion” in the arts. When a romance blossoms between a rising comic and a firebrand actress, they face being blacklisted along with their friends and fellow artists.
The production will also feature scenic design by Andrea Bechert, costume design by Cathleen Edwards, lighting design by Steven B. Mannshardt, and sound design by Jake Rodriguez. The stage manager is Randall K. Lum, and the assistant stage manager is Emily Anderson Wolf.
