Tony Award winner Laura Benanti stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers March 20. In between talking about her role on The Detour and playing Melania Trump on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Benanti and Meyers bonded over parenting in New York City.
“There’s a coffee shop we go to every morning, and we are regulars there,” says Benanti in the video above. “For her birthday, they played ‘Single Ladies,’ which is her favorite song. And we put her on the table and she danced to ‘Single Ladies.’” Meyers then treated his audience to a mashup of Benanti's daughter Ella and his son Ashe dancing to the Beyoncé hit.
Performing runs in Benanti’s family. Not only is she an actor and her daughter musically inclined, but “both my parents actually were performers,” she says. Benanti’s mother Linda continues to teach voice lessons.
Now, Benanti performs a new cabaret with her mother at venues including Feinstein’s/54 Below. “Right after I had my daughter I asked my mom if she would come do concerts with me. So 36 years after being an actress, she finally came back on the stage with me.”
