Tony-winning stage and film director Kenny Leon (soon to be represented on Broadway with American Son starring Kerry Washington) will direct the fall engagement from The Billie in association with True Colors.

Dot will begin performances October 20 at The Billie Holiday Theatre, located at 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn. Denise Burse (Black Mirror, The Old Settler) will star in the title role alongside Tinashe Kajese-Bolden as Shelly, Rhyn McLemore Saver as Jackie, Gilbert Glenn Brown as Donnie, Lee Osorio as Adam, Amber A. Harris as Averie, and Benedetto Robinson as Fidel.

In Dot, a family's widowed matriarch is facing the onset of Alzheimer's. As Dotty fights to hold onto her memories, her children must fight to balance care for their mother with care for themselves.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the newly-reimagined Billie Holiday Theatre and to present Dot to Brooklyn audiences," says True Colors Artistic Director Leon. “The play allows us the opportunity to come together as community; not just as individuals, but as two theatres committed to the best, wisest and most challenging parts of ourselves and our stories. Dot is a story that will hit close to home for so many."

The creative team fincludes Andre C. Allen (lighting designer), Matt Head (sound designer), Kathryn Muse (props designer), Jarrod Barnes (costume designer), Day Byrd (wig designer), and Tracy Thomas (production stage manager).

The limited engagement will play through November 18.

Dot played Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2016 in a production directed by Susan Stroman.
