The New York Philharmonic will welcome to stars of the Broadway and opera stage as guest vocalists in its newly announced 2019–2020 season.

Kelli O'Hara—soon to return to Broadway in Kiss Me, Kate—will sing Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, conducted by Jaap van Zweden. Performances will run September 18–21 at David Geffen Hall. Renée Fleming, whose upcoming projects include The Light in the Piazza and Norma Jeane Baker of Troy, will sing selections from Björk’s discography as part of a program running February 20–22, 2020.

The latter program is part of the Philharmonic’s Project 19, a new series launching in 2020 to commemorate the centennial of the 19th amendment, granting American women the right to vote. The series will feature 19 world premieres by 19 female composers. The upcoming season kicks off with programs featuring works by Joan La Barbara, Nicole Lizée, Paola Prestini, Nina C. Young, Tania León, Ellen Reid, Olga Neuwirth, and Sarah Kirkland Snider.

Additional season highlights include an exploration of former Music Director Gustav Mahler—including his first two symphonies and Songs of a Wayfarer—and live concert screenings of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Psycho, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
