Readings and Workshops Kathleen Chalfant Will Star in Woman of the World for Liz Smith Reading Series The Miranda Theatre Company’s first-annual Liz Smith Reading Series launches March 6.

The inaugural Liz Smith Reading Series, presented by the Miranda Theatre Company, is set to launch March 6 in celebration of Women’s History Month.

The Miranda dedicates the series to the late journalist who was an ardent theatre lover. The readings will take place Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM throughout March at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Creative Space, 311 West 43rd Street.

Caroline Prugh’s Prudence, about a female boarding school in 1831 that opens its doors to an African American student, will be presented March 6. India Craig Galaván explores reverse gentrification in her new play Welcome to Matteson!, presented March 13. Tony Award nominee Kathleen Chalfant will lead a reading of Rebecca Gilman’s Woman of the World, about the real-life story of Emily Dickinson’s editor Mabel Loomis Todd, March 20; and Nambi E. Kelly’s dramatic adaptation of Toni Morrison’s Harlem-set novel Jazz will close the series March 27.
