Cabaret & Concert News Justin Guarini Helps Jason Robert Brown Reveal Songs from His Latest Projects September 11 The concert continues Brown’s three-year residency at SubCulture in Greenwich Village.

Tony Award-winning Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown resumes his monthly series of concerts at the Greenwich Village cabaret SubCulture on September 11 with a performance featuring Broadway star and American Idol finalist Justin Guarini.

SubCulture promises “an eclectic mix of material, featuring music from throughout his acclaimed career, along with new works in development.”

Brown is artist-in-residence at SubCulture, where he has been hosting the monthly series for the past three years. A Tony Award winner for his score to Parade, Brown has also written music and lyrics for The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Last Five Years, Urban Cowboy, 13, and the recently opened Prince of Broadway.

Since his No. 2 finish on American Idol, Guarini has released two albums and an EP. He made his Broadway debut in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (2010), and continued to work in musicals and plays including American Idiot, Romeo and Juliet, Wicked, Paint Your Wagon, and In Transit in New York, and leading roles in regional performances of Rent, Chicago, Company, Moonshine, Cake Off, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Special guests in past performances from SubCulture’s Jason Robert Brown series have included Kelli O’Hara, Steven Pasquale, Norbert Leo Butz, Tom Kitt, Tony Danza, Laura Benanti, Cynthia Erivo, Tituss Burgess, Lena Hall, Ana Gasteyer, LaChanze, Shaina Taub, Megan Hilty, Eden Espinosa, Norm Lewis, Sierra Boggess, Mykal Kilgore, Betsy Wolfe, Shoshana Bean, and Philippa Soo.

Brown’s next SubCulture concert will feature Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) October 22 at 8 PM.

Ana Gasteyer, Laura Benanti, Megan Hilty, and Sierra Boggess have also been a special guest performers on Playbill’s Broadway on the High Seas cruises.
