Dates are now set for the previously announced Broadway transfer of Jez Butterworth’s The Ferryman, which currently plays the West End following a sold-out engagement at London’s Royal Court. Performances will begin October 2 for an October 21 opening night at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (which will first be home to the Denzel Washington-led The Iceman Cometh).

The Sam Mendes-helmed staging premiered at the Royal Court in spring 2017 before immediately transferring to the West End Gielgud Theatre, where the production is scheduled to continue (on extension) through May. The play earned both the Evening Standard Award and Critics' Circle Theatre Award for Best New Play.

A full production schedule and casting (the play features a company of over 30 performers, including 12 children and one baby) will be announced at a later date.

The play is set in Northern Ireland in the early '80s during the Carney farmhouse's annual harvest celebration and feast. The festivities are halted, however, by an unexpected visitor.

Butterworth's additional works include The River and Jerusalem—both of which premiered at the Royal Court before receiving Broadway engagements.

The Ferryman features sets and costumes by Rob Howell, lighting design by Peter Mumford, and sound design and original music by Nick Powell.
