Jennifer Simard joins the cast of Mean Girls on Broadway in the roles of Mrs. Heron, Ms. Norbury, and Mrs. George beginning September 11. The Tony Award nominee, recently seen on Broadway in Hello, Dolly!, replaces Kerry Butler, who originated the role and played her final performance September 9.
Simard is a Tony nominee for her performance in the musical comedy Disaster!. She went on to play Ernestina in the Tony-winning revival of Hello, Dolly! and has previously been seen on Broadway in Sister Act, Shrek The Musical, and The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee.
Simard joins a principal cast made up of Erika Henningsen as high school fresh face Cady Heron, Taylor Louderman as queen bee Regina George, Ashley Park as Gretchen Wieners, Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith, Grey Henson as Damian, Cheech Manohar as Kevin Gnapoor, Kyle Selig as Aaron Samuels, Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis Sarkisian, and Rick Younger as Mr. Duvall.
Mean Girls features music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and a book by Tina Fey, who makes her Broadway debut after appearing in and penning the screenplay for the 2004 comedy. Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs.
The musical comedy opened at the August Wilson Theatre April 8 following a world premiere at the National Theatre in Washington D.C.
The cast also includes Stephanie Lynn Bissonnette, Tee Boyich, Collins Conley, Ben Cook, DeMarius R. Copes, Kevin Csolak, Ashley De La Rosa, Devon Hadsell, Curtis Holland, Myles McHale, Chris Medlin, Brittany Nicholas, Becca Petersen, Nikhil Saboo, Jonalyn Saxer, Brendon Stimson, Riza Takahashi, Kamille Upshaw, Zurin Villanueva, Gianna Yanelli, and Iain Young.
