Ain’t Too Proud will welcome a new Temptation this month. Jelani Remy, currently a swing in the bio-musical, will take over as Eddie Kendricks beginning July 9. Jeremy Pope, who earned a Tony nomination for his performance in the role earlier this year (as well as an additional nod for Choir Boy), takes his final bow July 7 at the Imperial Theatre.

Producers Ira Pittleman and Tom Hucle said in a joint statement, “If we could, we’d never let Jeremy Pope leave, but we simply have to. We wish him a big, bright future.” A production representative did not comment on the reason for the actor’s departure.

Remy made his Broadway debut in The Lion King, playing a three-year run as Simba after appearing in the national tour. His additional credits include the 2007 tour of High School Musical and Off-Broadway's Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Ain’t Too Proud—The Life and Times of the Temptations, directed by Des McAnuff and featuring a book by Dominique Morisseau, also stars Derrick Baskin as Otis Williams, James Harkness as Paul Williams, Jawan M. Jackson as Melvin Franklin, and Ephraim Sykes as David Ruffin. After opening in March, the production earned 11 Tony nominations, winning for Sergio Trujillo’s choreography.
