Seinfeld star and Tony Award winner Jason Alexander will direct a production of The Last Five Years at Syracuse Stage in 2019.

Performances of the Jason Robert Brown musical will run at the upstage venue May 29–June 16, 2019. Tickets will go on sale November 20. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Alexander has a host of theatre credits to his name, most recently appearing in Manhattan Theatre Club's The Portuguese Kid Off-Broadway. He won a Tony Award in 1989 for Jerome Robbins Broadway, where he played a number of different characters from Robbins' musicals.

The sung-through musical follows a couple—novelist Jamie and struggling actor Cathy—as they examine their five-year relationship. The former tells his story in chronological order, while Cathy begins with their split.
