James McAvoy, soon to be seen alongside Tony nominee Ruth Wilson and Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda on HBO's His Dark Materials, will return to the London stage later this year. The actor has been tapped to take on the title role of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac in the West End.

The production, marking the 2019–2020 season kickoff for director Jamie Lloyd's eponymous theatre company, features a new adaptation by Martin Crimp. Performances will begin at the Playhouse Theatre November 27, with opening night set for December 6. The run is currently scheduled through February 29, 2020.

McAvoy, known for his big screen performances in the X-Men series, M. Night Shyamalan's Split and Glass, and Atonement (for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination), reunites with Lloyd after London engagements of The Ruling Class, Macbeth, and Three Days of Rain. He earned Olivier nominations for all three.

The staging will feature sets and costumes by Soutra Gilmour, lighting by Jon Clark, sound design and original music by Ben and Max Ringham, and fight direction by Kate Waters. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

On the other side of the pond, Game of Thrones Emmy winner Peter Dinklage will take center stage in another adaptation of the play—this one a musical—with the New Group Off-Broadway.
