New York-based company The New Group held their annual gala on March 11, honoring actor Edie Falco and photographer/New Group board chair Serge Neville with the newly renamed Mimi and Michael Mendelson Award for Outstanding Commitment to Theater. The fundraising event went to benefit the New Group's many programs, including their stage productions (currently Jeremy O. Harris' "Daddy", a co-production with the Vineyard Theatre, and the upcoming production of Jesse Eisenberg's Happy Talk), their educational outreach programs, and their new works development program, New Group/New Works.
Past recipients of the Mimi and Michael Mendelson Award have included Chloë Sevigny, Sutton Foster, and Ed Harris and Amy Madigan. This year's gala featured a musical performance by Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton) and appearances by Peter Dinklage, Warren Leight, and Erica Schmidt.
