The Commercial Theater Institute's 2019 Robert Whitehead Award ceremony, honoring Broadway producer Tom Kirdahy, was held May 22 at Sardi's. The award was presented to Kirdahy by Tony-nominated director Rachel Chavkin and playwright Matthew Lopez.
Kirdahy is known for producing Chavkin's Hadestown and Lopez's The Inheritance, as well as his husband Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune (currently on Broadway), Bandstand, Anastasia, The Visit, It's Only a Play, Ragtime, Master Class, and The Deuce.
“Tom Kirdahy is just what a producer should be—passionate, smart, considerate, and persistent. His professionalism and kindness put him squarely in the footsteps of the legendary Robert Whitehead,” said Tom Viertel, Executive Director of CTI, in a statement. “Tom’s explosive output in the last few years speaks to his vision and energy and make him a particularly worthy recipient of the Robert Whitehead Award.”
