Idina Menzel Returns to Her Wedding Singer Roots in Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition Clip | Playbill

Film & TV News Idina Menzel Returns to Her Wedding Singer Roots in Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition Clip The Tony Award winner goes in disguise as aspiring singer “Helen” to offer a head voice-heavy take on a Whitney Houston classic in the May 18 episode.

In If/Then, Idina Menzel sometimes wore glasses and a cardigan to play Liz (or was it Beth?). Now, she’s rocking both once more—plus a wild blonde wig—to go incognito on CBS’ Undercover Boss: Celebrity Edition.

The Wicked Tony Award winner appears on the May 18 episode of the series, going in disguise as Helen, who joins aspiring singer Beda onstage at a wedding to perform the Whitney Houston classic “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Menzel, committed to the bit, dons a hesitant soprano. Check out their duet in the exclusive clip above.

Menzel herself was an actual wedding singer on Long Island before being cast in Rent, which marked her Broadway debut and earned her her first Tony nomination.

The episode will also feature Menzel (again, as Helen), sporting a chicken suit and singing the Frozen anthem “Let It Go” to a group of children.

Menzel will return to the New York stage this season in the world premiere of Joshua Harmon’s Skintight. The Roundabout Theatre Company production will begin Off-Broadway performances May 31.
