Special Features Hear Daphne Rubin-Vega and Michael Urie in Exclusive Excerpt From The Horror of Dolores Roach Gimlet Media's new scripted podcast is adapted from Aaron Mark's acclaimed solo play, Empanada Loca.

On October 17, Gimlet Media will release its new scripted podcast series, The Horror of Dolores Roach, adapted and directed by Aaron Mark from his acclaimed monologue play Empanada Loca. Returning once again to the role of Dolores—the underground ex-prisoner she depicted in the play's Off-Broadway premiere—is Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega.

The Horror of Dolores Roach tells the story of the indomitable Dolores Roach, who returns to a much-changed New York City after 16 years incarcerated. Her boyfriend missing, her family long gone, Dolores is recognized only by an old stoner friend, Luis (played by Bobby Cannavale), who lets her give massages for cash in the basement apartment under his dilapidated empanada shop. It doesn't take long before the two become entangled in a cannibalistic scheme and Dolores is forced into hiding to recount her grotesque tale of eat, or be eaten.

Hear Rubin-Vega and guest star Michael Urie in this exclusive excerpt from episode 3 below.

The cast of The Horror of Dolores Roach also includes Abigail Spencer (Rectify, Timeless, Mad Men), David Zayas (Dexter, Bloodline, Gotham), John Douglas Thompson (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks), Kita Updike (Difficult People), Gizel Jimenez (Avenue Q, Miss You Like Hell), Richard Kind (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Mad About You), Margaret Cho (30 Rock, Drop Dead Diva), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black, Fear the Walking Dead), Noah Robbins (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Younger), Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives), and Lillias White (The Get Down, Hercules).

The Horror of Dolores Roach is written by Mark. Gimlet’s executive producer for scripted fiction is Mimi O’Donnell (O’Donnell is also former artistic director at Labyrinth Theater Company, which produced the world premiere of Empanada Loca in 2015).
