The Second Stage Theatre production of Harvey Fierstein’s Tony Award-winning drama Torch Song, starring Michael Urie and Tony Awad winner Mercedes Ruehl, begins performances October 9 at the Helen Hayes Theatre, following an acclaimed Off-Broadway run last fall.

This new production, which Fierstein has streamlined into a two-act Torch Song—down from its original trilogy—will officially open November 1. Moisés Kaufman directs the production.

Urie stars as Arnold Beckoff, a gay drag performer who navigates both the liberation and assimilation of gay men in 1980s New York, as well as a back-and-forth plea for respect from his overbearing mother, played by Ruehl.
