Stage and screen favorite Leslie Odom Jr. stopped by CBS This Morning to discuss his new book, Failing Up: How to Take Risks, Aim Higher, and Never Stop Learning. The motivational book, published through Feiwel & Friends, an imprint of Macmillan, is in stores now.
Despite the juggernaut effect of Hamilton, for which Odom Jr. won a Tony as Aaron Burr, Odom Jr. asserts, “There’s a whole lot of roots under that tree. There’s a whole lot of hard work and failure along the way. So I wanted to point to that, because that’s what got us there."
The Tony winner goes on share some lessons he’s learned throughout his career that are detailed in the book, including advice from his father-in-law that caused him to reevaluate his outlook on his profession as a freelance artist.
In addition to Hamilton, Odom Jr. has appeared on Broadway in Leap of Faith and Rent. His screen credits include Murder on the Orient Express and Smash, as well as the upcoming projects $1 (from CBS All Access) and Apple's animated musical series Central Park. Earlier this year, he performed “America the Beautiful” at the Super Bowl.
