Hadestown was originally announced to release its Original Broadway Cast Record on all major streaming platforms June 7. To accommodate the additional time required for mixing the album, songs from the recording will instead be released in batches this summer.

The first digital release will drop June 4 at 12:01 AM with four tracks, with nine more following June 7. Three subsequent drops—each tied to pairs or groups of characters in the mythology-inspired musical—will follow June 28, July 12, and July 26.

In total, the recording (which will later be physically released as a double album) will feature 40 tracks spanning over two hours of music.

"We got deep into editing and mixing these two-plus hours’ worth of beautiful performances and realized we didn’t have the heart to rush what feels like a very special recording that we hope will live for a long time," Tony nominee Anaïs Mitchell, who authored the book and score for the musical, said in a statement. "We hope this will give folks a chance to appreciate all over again the unique gifts of our unicorn company and give us the time we need to make sure we are creating the most magical recording possible.”

Hadestown earned 14 Tony award nominations—the most of any show this season—and most recently won the Drama League Award for Best Musical.

The album will be produced by David Lai and Todd Sicakfoose, who previously produced the beloved 2017 live recording from the show’s earlier run at New York Theatre Workshop.

Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin directs the Broadway production, starring Tony nominee Eva Noblezada as Eurydice and Reeve Carney as Orpheus. The are joined by two-time Tony nominee André De Shields as Hermes, Patrick Page as Hades, and Amber Gray as Persephone.
