Actors Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman played the epitome of soap opera couples—hopelessly in love, destined to be kept apart—on Guiding Light for nearly 28 years. The two now play the dysfunctional marrieds in Edward Albee’s classic Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which began performances September 6 at Theatre Workshop of Nantucket.

The original Broadway production won the Tony Award for Best Play, and the roles of George and Martha were later immortalized on screen by Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Zimmer studied at The American Conservatory Theatre and appeared in regional productions of Hello, Dolly!, Sunset Boulevard, Gypsy, The Lion in Winter, and toured with Wicked for nearly two years. She is best known as Reva Shayne from her Guiding Light days, for which she earned four Emmy Awards. Her on-screen husband, Robert Newman, earned two Emmy nominations as Josh Lewis on Guiding Light. Newman has performed Off-Broadway in Perfect Crime, She’s of a Certain Age, Sessions: The Musical, and Quiet on the Set.

The two are joined by Olivia Howell as Honey and Grant Tambellini as Nick. Directed by Dan Foster, the production runs through September 30.
