Feeding the Dragon, Sharon Washington’s autobiographical solo show, opened at the Cherry Lane Theatre April 3. The production is written and performed by Washington with direction by Maria Mileaf, who helmed the show during its previous out-of-town runs in Pittsburgh and Hartford.

In the play, Washington recalls her childhood home on the top floor of the St. Agnes branch of the NYPL, where her father served as the building’s custodian, and how her love of books has helped her battle dragons—in all their forms—throughout her life.

The Off-Broadway premiere of the show is presented by Primary Stages, in association with Jamie deRoy and Hartford Stage. Performances are scheduled through April 27.
