To celebrate the 86th anniversary of the release of the 1933 film King Kong, the new Broadway production King Kong celebrated its street renaming at the Broadway Theatre March 6. Joined by Anne del Castillo, the acting commissioner of the New York City mayor’s office, the company of the mega-musical unveiled King Kong Court.
King Kong, the musical adaptation of Merian C. Cooper’s adventure novel and the sprawling film franchise it inspired, opened on Broadway November 8, 2018, after beginning preview performances October 5.
The production, directed and choreographed by Olivier Award winner Drew McOnie, fuses state-of-the-art animatronic and robotic technology with a massive, 20-foot marionette puppet controlled by an onstage team of puppeteers to bring Kong to life.
The show features a book by Tony and Olivier winner Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and a score by Eddie Perfect (the songwriter behind the score for the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Beetlejuice) and Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Romeo+Juliet).
