Abingdon Theatre Company presented a one-night-only concert performance of Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on February 4. Becca Kotte and Sara Jean Ford stared in the title roles of the musical, which utilizes the 1994 Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan media frenzy to explore America’s obsession with celebrity scandals.
With a libretto and concept by Elizabeth Searle and music by Michael Teoli, the musical featured Ford as Nancy, Kotte as Tonya, Cheryl Stern as Mom, Jared Zirilli as Jeff, with Heidi Friese, Chase Kamata, Ryan MacConnell, and Colin Barkell. Rachel Klein directed, with musical direction by Henry Aronson.
